Princes Town West Secondary solidified their lead in the south zone championship division of the Secondary Schools Football League with a 2-0 victory over Fyzabad Secondary on Friday.

The contenders are Pleasantville Secondary, Point Fortin East Secondary and Fyzabad Secondary in that order, with goal difference being the deciding factor.

Pleasantville moved to second seed with three wins, one loss and a draw, but enjoy a superior goal difference over both Point Fortin and Fyzabad. Fyzabad fell from second to fourth place while Point Fortin East remain third with three wins, one loss and a draw.

Vessigny visits Princes Town tomorrow for another thriller with first seeding implications. The School Buzz will continue to capture the tight race in the south zone.

Jump rope on the rise

Once seen as simply a recreational activity, jump rope is now a quickly emerging as a sport in T&T.

Clint Charles, founder and president of the T&T Jump Rope Federation and head coach of the national junior team, has been with the sport since inception and shared with the School Buzz upcoming events in November to spread the sport to schools nationwide.

Charles explained the sport was introduced as an intervention strategy at the Lower Morvant Government Primary school where he teaches.

This has now evolved into the formation of a National Federation in 2012 with T&T competing and medalling at international events.

A ten person contingent competed at World Championship at The University of Florida, USA, in July where 14-year-old Akkasia Charles of Woodbrook Government Secondary School won silver and bronze in her categories. Jair Codogan, a form two student of Fatima College also won silver in his event.

The Federation is in a recruitment drive for more. They will be hosting the National Junior Championship on November 14 at the Jean Pierre Complex.

They are anticipating wide spread participation from schools nationwide. The Federation has sought the expertise of world renowned coach Mike Fry of California, USA, to assist local coaches and work with the national team.

Schools are urged to participate at this event, as it will be used as selection criteria for the upcoming Pan American Championship in Washington next July.

All jump rope enthusiasts can contact: Mahalia Regis at 313-0082.
