Guaya Dream Team climbed into top spot in the T&T Table-Tennis Association Championship Division (Division Two) League after winning one of two matches on Monday night.

In their first match, Guaya defeated Carenage Blasters 3-1, led by two wins from Franklyn Seechan.

Seechan put his team ahead 1-0 by beating Luc O’Young 11-5, 11-2, 11-6 and won teh fourth match, 14-12, 7-11, 11-9, 11-7 over Joshua Maxwell.

Maxwell had earlier leveled the best-of-five match series at 1-1 for his team after he stopped Michael Mc Comie 11-5, 11-4, 11-8, but Neville Cobie beat Dennis La Rose 12-10, 11-9, 11-7 for Guaya’s other win.

However, at the UTT campus in Chaguaramas, the host got a decisive win from Lawrence Ince, 11-2, 11-4, 11-4 over Cobie to triumph 3-2.

Davonne Joseph put UTT 1-0 in front via his 11-4, 11-5, 13-11 win over Cobie, only for Seechan to humble Ince 11-5, 11-9, 11-7 and even the series at 1-1.

Lamani Clarke then restored UTT’s narrow lead at 2-1 after outlasting Mc Comie 11-7, 11-8, 11-9, but once again, Seechan proved a stumbling block and overcame Joseph 11-7, 12-10, 11-9 to set up a fifth and deciding match, where Ince had the last laugh.

With the win and loss, Guaya which started the day in a four-way tie with D’Abadie Youths I, Arima Hawks and UTT, in second spot with 23 points and 10-3 records each, one behind PowerGen (11-2), improved to 27 points.

Joint second are UTT, Hawks and D’Abadie Youths I now with 11-3 marks and 25 points apiece, one ahead of PowerGen which was idle.

Hawks, led by national women players Brittany Joseph and Linda Partap-Boodhan, blanked Central Warriors 3-0.

Joseph overcame Mujaahid Khan 11-8, 11-9, 11-8 and Partap Boodhan brushed aside Clive Ramsingh 11-5, 11-8, 11-5 while Rawle Parsons beat Saleem Aziz 11-6, 11-3, 11-5.

D’Abadie Youths I scolded D’Abadie Youths II 3-1 behind wins from Ronald Williams, Carlisle Cleveland and Issa Baisden

It was D’Abadie Youths II which got off to the better start when Edwin Humphreys outlasted Baisden 11-9, 7-11, 4-11, 11-8, 11-7.

That win turned out to be the lone bright spot for D’Abadie Youths II as Williams punished Daveon Humphreys 11-2, 11-6, 11-6; Cleveland battled past Daryl Rampersad 7-11, 11-7, 11-7, 8-11, 11-8 and Baisden redeemed himself by overcoming Humphreys (D), 13-11, 11-6, 11-7.

Last night, Solo Crusaders faced Montrose United and Himalaya Tough Guys.
