The T&T National Games are predicted to kick off by June next year, for the latest. This, according to the Minister of Sports, Dr Rupert Griffith. He was speaking to G-Sport yesterday, while at the Diplomatic Reception Launch of the Parliament in Port-of-Spain.
Griffith said the games will be based on seven different disciplines culminating into a big national final. The sports include football, cricket, basketball, netball, track and field, swimming and badminton. “Now that we have the approval we have to pull teams together. We would have to go to the various governing bodies of the various sporting organisations.”
Griffith predicted the National Games to kick off around May/June next year. Finance Minister Larry Howai, on Monday, announced Government’s commitment to sporting elite athletes, developing football at the grass root level, as well as the proposed introduction of the T&T National Games.
Howai assured that within the general framework, government will continue to fund elite athletes so that they can attain excellence at the highest levels of competition.
